Fox Smoulder #1013

I play derby for the Tri-City Roller Girls (TCRG) in Kitchener, Ont. I am Co-Captain of the Total Knockouts, one of our three home teams and a member of our travel team Tri-City Thunder. Welcome to my derbyverse.
(Disclaimer: These are my opinions only and not those of my league/team/etc. ...you get the idea.)

I was away in Rochester, NY this weekend. Thunder had its first bout of the season against the ROC Stars.

WE WON!!!

Thunder lead the entire first half, but then there was a lead change shortly after the second half started. But then a ROC jammer got a 2 minute penalty and we quickly regained lead and held onto it for the rest of the game!

Re-Cap in Bullet Points

  • At one point I got back blocked so hard by the opposing jammer that we both fell down and about 5 other people fell on top of us. My girlfriend informed me after the game that at this point she jumped out of her seat and yelled “THEY’RE CRUSHING HEERRRRR!!!”. Hahaha. Nothing like terrifying your fans!
  • I Pivoted all the lines I was on - I need to work on asserting my voice especially when I am on a line with more veteran skaters. I tend to give up my voice to theirs but I need to be confident in my own calls.
  • I can honestly say that my mental game was the best ever. I had no negative self talk and I remained calm
  • I made 4 trips to the Sin Bin (well 3 actually - one was a 2 minuter). I definitely need to work on playing cleaner but none of these were for back-block/forearm/elbow type penalties so I feel great about that.
  • I can honestly say I had an amazing amount of fun playing this game. We had so many cheers and we pulled them out whenever we needed a little pick me up.
  • I think our team is bonding great and we really feel like we are working together. Gives me warm fuzzies.

I now know a few more things that I am going to start working towards and I can’t wait to see even more improvement! We have a tourny coming up in a month so I have some time to get better. There are exactly 11 Travel Team practices left before the tourny so I need to keep focused and use the most on my track time. I really want to be rostered for all 3 games that weekend so I have to show my Captains and Coaches that they need me on the track!
