Tough Mudder
Because my derby league is full of bad ass ladies we decided we are going to enter a team in the 2012 Tough Mudder Race. We have the month of August off from bouting so we decided we wanted to do something epic - obviously a 12mile race with 25 British Force Obstacles was the best choice.
We have 6 months to train since it takes place on August 18th! SO EXCITED.

Bout Re-Cap (aka WE WON!!!)
I was away in Rochester, NY this weekend. Thunder had its first bout of the season against the ROC Stars.
WE WON!!!
Thunder lead the entire first half, but then there was a lead change shortly after the second half started. But then a ROC jammer got a 2 minute penalty and we quickly regained lead and held onto it for the rest of the game!
Re-Cap in Bullet Points
At one point I got back...

Our league as a fairly lenient Home Team policy where as long as you show up and pay your dues you get to play. My motto has always been “your team is only as strong as its weakest player” so I really try to work with everyone to improve. I know that I probably take this a little too personally but I really hate it when one person can be such a negative impact on the rest of the...

It's not me, it's you...
I have been a Home Team Captain going on two seasons and this will be my first season as a full member of training committee. One of the most difficult (and necessary) things you need to do in these roles is learn how to effectively communicate.
And there is not one right way to do this. If you know derby girls then you know that each one of us is a unique, sparkly butterfly and we are all very...

Yay Roller Derby!: 6 Habits of Highly Effective... →
kittydecapitate:
I have been thinking a lot lately about what makes a great derby player. Sure; athletic, strong, agile, smart, good speed control….but I don’t really mean the physical skills here…I am talking about what characteristics allow someone to train hard in order to gain the physical skills required of…

Derby Girls are the Best
I was recently informed that I had to find a new place to live in 2 months - I wasn’t really planning on moving (since I had just moved in October) so this was a little upsetting.
I told my team what was going on at a party and 2 team mates immediately knew of places for rent and sent me information. One team mate offered to lend me money if I couldn’t afford first and last that soon...

Bittersweet
Today my home team found out they wont be playing at Beast of the East this year. So that that super sad.
But the Vicious Dishes (anthoer TCRG home team) did get in! In preparation I went out and bought hot pink skinny jeans to wear for cheering them on.
If I wont be playing then I will be the best damn cheerer ever! I will be the one dressed all in pink building an epic beeramyd ;)

I'M MADE THE ROSTER!!
My travel team, Thunder, is playing an away game against Rochester in 2 weeks. The roster came out today and I will be playing!!
I’m so excited!! And nervous.
I have two weeks to step up my game and make sure I get some good track time. This will be my second Thunder game technically, but I don’t count the other one because the circumstances were weird.

Sometimes, you just have to suck it up
Last night I didn’t want to go to practice. I just wanted to stay and home and hug my kittens while crying. Sometimes life just makes you want to throw your self a pity party.
But I forced myself to go anyway, and guess what?
I beat my record for 25 in 5 (I’m now at 32 3/4 laps!!). I had fun. I forgot all about my problems. I laughed. I got hit super hard, feel really weird and...

Pressure
I have this horrible habit of never being able to take a compliment. Ever. If complimented I will either brush it off completely as pure lunacy or become suspicious of the compliments intentions.
For example, if someone was to say “Hey Fox, nice hit out there”. I would think “Meh I guess it was okay but I could have done x,y,z better” or “Why is that person watching...
